Alexander: Senate Republicans Are Ready to Put Patients Back in Charge

WASHINGTON, D.C., July 26 – Following today’s vote on an amendment offered by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) to repeal Obamacare, Senate health committee Chairman Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.), a cosponsor of the amendment, said:

“Passing Obamacare was an historic mistake—just last month, tens of thousands of Tennesseans who buy individual Obamacare policies were reminded of that when they learned their health care premiums may go up by double digits next year —and by more than 36 percent if they’re enrolled in the state’s most popular plan. Americans’ health care costs are rising, while their choices of health care plans, doctors and hospitals are shrinking. Senate Republicans are ready to move in a different direction, one that puts patients back in charge, and finally restore greater choice for Americans’ health care.”
