Alexander Statement on Nomination of Andy Slavitt to Head Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services

WASHINGTON, D.C., July 10 – Senate health committee Chairman Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) today made the following statement on the nomination of Andy Slavitt to head the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services:

“I will be interested in hearing from Mr. Slavitt whether he is ready to work with Congress to make the Medicare and Medicaid reforms necessary so that we can finally get our country’s fiscal house in order—and so seniors can count on Medicare to pay their hospital bills.”

The Medicare Trustees have said that by 2030, the program will be insolvent and, therefore, won’t have enough money to pay all of seniors’ hospital bills.
