WASHINGTON, August 2, 2017 — United States Senator Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) today released the following statement on his vote to confirm Marvin Kaplan as a member of the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB):
“This position has been vacant for 23 months, since President Obama declined to nominate a Republican to this then-minority seat. After years of playing the role of advocate, the NLRB should be restored to the role of neutral umpire. I’m hopeful that Mr. Kaplan will help restore some balance to the labor board to ensure stable labor relations and free flow of commerce.”
Alexander is chairman of the Senate’s labor committee, and held a hearing on Mr. Kaplan’s nomination on July 13. The committee favorably reported Mr. Kaplan’s nomination on July 19.
Alexander wrote an op-ed in the Washington Examiner this morning, encouraging the Senate to confirm Mr. Kaplan.
Marvin Kaplan has served as Chief Counsel for the Acting Chair of the Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission since August 2015.
