Chair Cassidy Demands Answers on Taxpayer Dollars Used to Fund Abortions Overseas

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA), chair of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, released a statement following a revelation that taxpayer funds administered by the Biden-Harris Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) from the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) were used to fund 21 abortions in Mozambique. This action violates the Helms Amendment, which prevents foreign aid from being used to pay for abortions.

“Funding abortions is the furthest thing from PEPFAR’s mission. Using American tax dollars to end the lives of unborn children abroad is not only horrifying, it’s illegal,” said Dr. Cassidy. “As the chair of the HELP Committee, I want to get to the bottom of how this occurred and support President Trump’s efforts to promote a culture of life across his administration.”
