Enzi Pleased With Tenative Agreement on Global AIDS Relief Program Says Deal Will Improve Focus on Care, Treatment of Individuals with HIV/AIDS


Washington D.C. – U.S. Senator Mike Enzi, R-WY, Ranking Member of theSenate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee (HELP Committee), todayissued the following statement on the tentative agreement to renew the President’sEmergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR): “The tentative agreement we have reached on the global AIDS relief programensures that we can focus our efforts on providing care and treatment to those withHIV/AIDS,” Enzi said. “I’m pleased we have reached a meeting of the minds to renewthis critical program and combat HIV/AIDS in poor countries. I hope that the Senate cantake up this life-saving measure as soon as possible. “After traveling to Africa several times, I have seen firsthand the value of thePresident's global AIDS policy. It is truly one of the most successful foreign aidprograms in the history of the United States. This agreement is essential to encourage allcountries helping fight AIDS to make treatment a priority.” ####
