Enzi: Reid Bill Would Squeeze Small Business

Washington, D.C. – What would the Reid health care bill mean for smallbusinesses? More taxes, higher costs and new mandates. For workers, the billwould mean fewer jobs and lower wages, U.S. Senator Mike Enzi (R-Wyo.), aformer small business owner, said in a speech on the Senate floor today.““How would more taxes, higher health care costs and heavy-handed mandateshelp our small businesses grow and create new jobs?” Enzi asked.

“The experts agree – the Reid bill would mean fewer jobs and lower wages forAmerican workers. We have lost nearly three and a half million jobs since January, and our unemployment rate is at a 26-year high of 10.2 percent. How can they evenconsider putting more jobs at risk?

“Instead of taxing and penalizing small businesses, we should be workingtogether to reduce health care costs and help small businesses provide coverage fortheir employees. That is why I have fought for years to help small businesses bandtogether and get the same discounts that insurers typically give large employers.”Video and full text of Senator Enzi’s speech will be available atwww.enzi.senate.gov.
