(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Senator Patty (D-WA), Chair of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, led a mark-up to advance nominees to the Department of Education (ED), the Department of Labor (DOL), the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), and the National Mediation Board (NMB). Senator Murray reiterated her strong support for the nominees, and emphasized that each nominee will play a critical role in rebuilding a stronger and fairer workforce and education system that works for everyone.
“This pandemic has made life harder for workers, students, and families across the country. If we are going to build back stronger and fairer from this pandemic, then our federal agencies must be fully-staffed with highly-qualified people who will help us respond to and rebuild from this crisis," said Senator Murray. The HELP Committee advanced the nomination of Amy Loyd to be Assistant Secretary for Career, Technical, and Adult Education at the Department of Education by a voice vote.
The HELP Committee advanced the nomination of Sandra Bruce to be Inspector General of the Department of Education by a voice vote.
The HELP Committee advanced the nomination of Larry Turner to be Inspector General of the Department of Labor a voice vote.
The HELP Committee advanced the nomination of Michael Smith to be Chief Executive Officer of the Corporation for National and Community Service by a voice vote.
The HELP Committee advanced the nomination of Deirdre Hamilton to be a Member of the National Mediation Board by a voice vote.
The HELP Committee advanced the nomination of Gerald Fauth to be a Member of the National Mediation Board by a voice vote.
The HELP Committee advanced the nomination of Linda Puchala to be a Member of the National Mediation Board by a voice vote.
The HELP Committee voted 11-11 on the nomination of Jose Javier Rodriguez to be Assistant Secretary for Employment and Training at the Department of Labor. The Committee will transmit a notice of a tie vote to the Secretary of the Senate. The nomination will now await a motion to discharge the nomination in a vote by the full Senate.
