President’s Budget a Blueprint for More Debt

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Mike Enzi, R-Wyo., a senior member of the Senate Budget Committee released the following statement today in response to President Obama’s proposed budget for Fiscal Year 2013:

“Despite his promises of fiscal discipline and cutting the deficit in half by the end of his first term, President Obama today presented the American people with another budget that spends too much, borrows too much and taxes too much. Four years of trillion dollar deficits is not just poor policy, it’s a failure of leadership that ignores our debt crisis and punts the tough decisions until after the next election.

“No amount of blaming or budget gimmickry can hide the fact that this budget and the President’s past budgets have grown the deficit and put our economy on ever more shaky ground.

“Everyone from the Congressional Budget Office to the President’s own deficit commission agree that spending needs to be cut. Congress can take the lead by passing a budget that includes strong deficit reduction provisions and sets us on a path out of our $15 trillion debt. When you’re in a hole, you stop digging. When you’re broke, you stop spending.”
