(Washington, D.C.) – Today, Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), Chair of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP), released the following statement on the Senate confirming Lisa Brown to serve as General Counsel of the Department of Education, Gwen Graham to serve as Assistant Secretary of Education for Legislation and Congressional Affairs, and Roberto Rodríguez to serve as Assistant Secretary of Education for Planning, Evaluation, and Policy Development:
“Over the past year and a half, this pandemic has made life harder for students across the country, and though we’ve made significant progress getting students back in the classroom, our work is far from over. That’s why it’s so critical we have a fully staffed Education Department—to help see our students safely through this pandemic, and to help us build back stronger and fairer.
“Lisa Brown, Gwen Graham, and Roberto Rodríguez are highly qualified public servants who are well prepared for the work ahead and ready to hit the ground running. I’m thrilled to see the Senate act to confirm them, and I look forward to working with them and the Biden Administration to ensure every student—no matter who they are or where they are from—can get the quality education they deserve.”
