KENNEDY APPLAUDS HOUSE PASSAGE OF LEDBETTER FAIR PAY ACT
WASHINGTON, DC— Today, Senator Edward M. Kennedy, Chairman of the Senate Health,Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, released the following statement in response to thepassage by the United States House of Representatives of the Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2007.
“No American should be denied equal pay for equal work. Employees’ ability to provide fortheir children, save for retirement, and enjoy the benefit of their labor should not be limited bydiscrimination. The Court’s decision undermined these bedrock principles by imposingunrealistically short time limits on such claims. I’m pleased to cosponsor the bill with abipartisan group of colleagues in the Senate, and I look forward to moving the bill forward tofinally correct this basic injustice.”
