STATEMENT OF SENATOR EDWARD M. KENNEDY ON FDA NOMINATIONS

WASHINGTON, DC—Senator Edward M. Kennedy, Chairman of the Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee, released the following statement today in response to President Obama’s nominations of Dr. Margaret Hamburg as Commissioner of the FDA and Dr. Joshua Sharfstein as Deputy Commissioner:

"Dr. Margaret Hamburg is a strong leader and respected health professional and she’s an excellent choice to put the nation’s food and drug safety agency on the right course. Dr. Hamburg and Dr. Sharfstein will bring dynamic new leadership to an agency that sorely needs it and will return sound scientific judgment to the FDA."
