Harkin on CBO Analysis of Health Reform Repeal

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee Chairman Tom Harkin (D-IA) released the following statement after the Congressional Budget Office released a new analysis showing that repealing the Affordable Care Act would add $230 billion to the federal deficit by 2021:

“Today’s report from the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office makes clear that Congressional Republicans’ political stunt would not only deprive millions of Americans of important protections against insurance company abuses, but would also increase the budget deficit by almost a quarter of a trillion dollars in the next ten years, and by more than a trillion after that.  That’s breathtaking irresponsibility that American families can’t afford.  We will not allow Congressional Republicans to damage America’s fiscal and public health by repealing the Affordable Care Act.”
