Murray: Congress Needs Answers on Trump Administration Treatment of Young Women in HHS Custody

HHS under fire for attempting to block young women from exercising constitutional rights to abortion

Office of Refugee Resettlement has yet to respond to letter sent two weeks ago demanding answers on ORR treatment of unaccompanied minors by October 31st

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), Ranking Member on the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, issued the following statement after the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) failed to respond to Murray’s inquiry demanding answers about the Trump Administration’s effort to block unaccompanied minors from accessing abortions.

“The Trump Administration’s interference with Jane Doe’s constitutionally protected right to safe, legal abortion care was appalling—and I continue to be deeply concerned that this effort to control young women’s health care choices was not an isolated incident. Congress needs thorough answers and full transparency from the Trump Administration about how it is treating young women in their care—and we need them now.”
