Trumpcare 2.0 would allow states to decide whether insurers need to cover pre-existing conditions and gut key consumer protections—on top of all the harm done in House Republicans first failed effort
(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), ranking member on the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, issued the follow statement on House Republicans’ latest version of Trumpcare.
“Anyone who had concerns about House Republicans’ last Trumpcare bill should be running as fast as they can from this new version. House Republicans’ latest desperate attempt to deliver a political win for President Trump would hurt women and families in all the same ways as their original failed effort—by causing tens of millions of people to lose coverage, spiking premiums for those with pre-existing conditions, targeting seniors for higher costs, defunding Planned Parenthood, and more. On top of all that harm, this latest Trumpcare bill would allow states to decide whether insurance companies should cover people with pre-existing conditions and create an opt-out so that in some states, insurance companies won’t have to cover things like maternity care and prescription drug costs. This Trumpcare bill is an even bigger gift from extreme House conservatives to themselves, and families across the country will reject it as harshly as they did the last.”
