(Washington, D.C.) – Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), ranking member on the Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, released the following statement on a federal judge’s flawed decision to rule against the Obama Administration overtime rule. The updated overtime rule would help provide economic security for millions of working families by making 4.2 million low-wage workers eligible for overtime pay when they work more than 40 hours a week.
“Today’s decision is a disappointing blow to workers across the country who are not getting paid what they deserve. This rule would make much-needed updates to our outdated overtime protections by simply allowing low-wage and middle class workers to be paid fairly for the hours they work. Secretary Acosta has an opportunity to finally put workers ahead of corporations and special interests by immediately appealing this flawed decision, and I hope he takes it.”
