(Washington, D.C.) –Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), ranking member on the Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, released the following statement on the Trump Administration’s decision not to defend an Obama Administration appeal of a court decision preventing the updated overtime rule from being enforced. The updated overtime rule would help provide economic security for millions of working families by making 4.2 million low-wage workers eligible for overtime pay when they work more than 40 hours a week.
“Given all the ways President Trump has already broken his campaign promise to put workers first, it’s unfortunately no surprise that his Administration appears to be preparing to roll back overtime protections for millions of workers in order to help corporations boost their profits. We should be doing more to help workers gain economic security, not less—and taking away protections that expand access to overtime would be a harmful step backward for workers and families nationwide.”
