Murray Sounds Alarm as Trump Administration Doubles Down on Ending Protections for Pre-Existing Conditions, Taking Away Families’ Coverage

Trump Administration filed letter in support of ruling that would fully strike down the Affordable Care Act

If Trump Administration gets its way, protections for people with pre-existing conditions would end, millions of people would lose their health coverage, and costs would skyrocket for millions more

Murray: “President Trump has just sent his clearest message yet to patients and families that he sees their health care coverage as a political football and nothing more.”

(Washington, D.C.) –Today, Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), ranking member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, issued the following statement in response to the Trump Administration’s announcement that it now fully supports a Texas federal court ruling striking down the entirety of the Affordable Care Act.

“President Trump has just sent his clearest message yet to patients and families that he sees their health care coverage as a political football and nothing more. If the Trump Administration has its way, protections for patients with pre-existing conditions will end, premiums will skyrocket, and tens of millions of people—including those who have coverage under the Medicaid expansion—will see their coverage taken away. Patients could see their annual and lifetime coverage capped, and young adults could once again be kicked off their parents’ plans.

“President Trump is determined to take this country backward on health care, but Democrats are going to continue standing with patients and families to fight back against this Administration’s health care sabotage, work to lower costs, and get more families the affordable, quality coverage they need.”
