Murray Statement on House Passage of Partisan No Child Left Behind Rewrite

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), Ranking Member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee released the following statement on the House passage of partisan legislation to rewrite the No Child Left Behind law. Murray called on House Republicans to work with Democrats rather than taking a partisan approach, especially as the Senate considers the Every Child Achieves Act, the bipartisan legislation she worked on with HELP Committee Chairman Lamar Alexander (R-TN) to fix No Child Left Behind.

“While this is another important step in the process to finally fix the badly broken No Child Left Behind law, I am disappointed that House Republicans have chosen to take a partisan approach and passed a bill that is unacceptable to Democrats and can never become law. I am proud of the bipartisan work we’ve done in the Senate so far, and I am hopeful that our bill can continue improving and that House Republicans will be ready to join us at the table to get this done in a way that works for all students and families.”
