(Washington, D.C.) — Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), Ranking Member of Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee, issued the following statement on the Supreme Court’s decision to review the religious accommodation to the birth control benefit included in the Affordable Care Act.
“In the 21st century, women should be able to access the health care they need, when they need it—and that must include affordable access to birth control. The Affordable Care Act took historic steps toward this goal by ensuring that contraceptive care would be covered with no copay, and as a result, millions of women are now more empowered to make their own decisions about their own health care. Rather than taking women across the country backward, I hope the Supreme Court rules in favor of protecting women’s access to critical health care services.”
