Murray Statement on Trump’s “Reckless” Decision to Cut Off Payments Helping Lower Health Care Costs for Families

Non-partisan CBO analysis: Trump to increase premiums by 20% in 2018, 25% by 2020

Murray: [Trump’s] pattern of governing by sabotage only makes it more critical that Congress…work together to undo the damage [he is] causing”

(Washington, D.C.) – Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), Ranking Member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, today released the following statement on President Trump’s decision to unilaterally cut off the cost-sharing reduction (CSR) payments required under the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

“President Trump is taking this reckless step to increase premiums and hurt patients in a continued, spiteful effort to score political points by undermining health care in our country. This pattern of governing by sabotage only makes it more critical that Congress show patients and families we can work together to undo the damage President Trump is causing. I continue to be optimistic about our negotiations and believe we can reach a deal quickly—and I urge Republican leaders in Congress to do the right thing for families this time by supporting our work.” ?
