Murray: Trump Efforts to Make Women Pay More for Birth Control: “Couldn’t Be More Wrong”

(Washington, D.C.) Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), ranking member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, released the following statement on reports of a leaked interim final rule the Office of Management and Budget is considering that would allow employers to claim broad exemptions to cover affordable birth control for women. Under the Affordable Care Act, 55 million women currently benefit from coverage of preventative services with no out-of-pocket costs including birth control.

“By allowing employers to deny women affordable birth control, President Trump is telling women their health and economic security do not matter. Well, the Trump Administration couldn’t be more wrong—and Democrats and women across the country are going to continue to make that very clear.”
