Ranking Member Cassidy Slams Biden Admin Expediting Student Loan Schemes, Transferring Hundreds of Billions in Debt onto Taxpayers

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA), ranking member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee, slammed the Biden administration’s attempt to speed up the rollout of its student loan schemes, which shift the burden of student debt onto taxpayers that decided not to go to college or already paid off their loans. This new allocation of time and resources by the Department of Education comes as it has failed to properly implement the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) program, threatening students’ access to financial aid services for college.

“The Biden administration’s priorities are out of whack. They are blundering the rollout of FAFSA—even though they had a legal obligation and 3 years to prepare,” said Dr. Cassidy. “Meanwhile, they are speeding up the timeline for their student loan schemes to transfer hundreds of billions of student debt onto Americans that chose not to go to college or already worked to pay off their loans.”
