Senator Murray responded to today’s Supreme Court ruling striking down law to restrict women’s access to abortion
Senator Murray: “Today’s ruling is a victory for every person’s right to make their own choices about their own body—and a reminder of just how important it is we keep fighting to defend the right to a safe, legal abortion no matter who you are or what your zip code is.”
(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), ranking member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, released the following statement in response to the Supreme Court’s decision today in June Medical Services, LLC v. Russo striking down a Louisiana law to restrict access to abortion.
“Today’s ruling is a victory for every person’s right to make their own choices about their own body—and a reminder of just how important it is we keep fighting to defend the right to a safe, legal abortion no matter who you are or what your zip code is. We know extreme conservatives will keep using every tool they can to chip away at the rights enshrined in Roe v. Wade. I’m thrilled to celebrate this victory—but the fight is far from over, because we cannot accept that for too many in our country, abortion rights are rights in name only and not in practice. I’m going to keep standing alongside all of you in our work to expand access to reproductive health care.”
Senator Murray and several of her Democratic colleagues also filed an amicus brief in June Medical Services, LLC v. Russo.
