Chair Cassidy Applauds Removal of Radical Biden-Harris Nominee Jennifer Abruzzo as NLRB General Counsel

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA), chair of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, released a statement following President Trump’s decision to fire National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) General Counsel Jennifer Abruzzo. Abruzzo was a radical Biden-Harris bureaucrat who spearheaded Biden’s weaponization of NLRB, enabling American workers to be pressured and coerced into unionizing.

“Under Abruzzo’s leadership, the Board weaponized its authority against American workers, opening them up to intimidation, coercion, and forced unionization. President Trump’s decision to remove Abruzzo is good for workers and the country,” said Dr. Cassidy. “As chair of the Senate HELP Committee, I look forward to working with President Trump to reform NLRB and enact a pro-America, pro-worker agenda.”

In December, Cassidy led Senate Republicans in blocking the re-nomination of Biden-Harris NLRB Chair Lauren McFerran. Given that there were only three weeks left of a Senate Democrat majority, this was a clear attempt by Democrats to deny President Trump the opportunity to choose his own nominee.

Cassidy also released a report detailing how NLRB weaponized its enforcement power on behalf of unions. Under the Biden-Harris administration, NLRB:

  • Overturned 50 years of Board precedent by renewing “card check” during union elections which exposes workers to intimidation tactics.
  • Condensed the time for union elections down to as little as three weeks after a petition is filed, depriving employees of a fair chance to hear from both sides and make an informed decision about whether to unionize.
  • Implemented new burdensome regulations preventing workers from leaving their union if the union has become ineffective or too costly.
  • Prevented employers from disciplining employees on the picket line who use racist and hostile language against other employees and managers. The NLRB deems using racist and hostile language as “protected concerted activity.”

In 2023, Cassidy introduced legislation to end extreme partisanship at the NLRB and prevent it from continuing to weaponize its enforcement power to target employers and implement policies exclusively favored by labor unions.
