Chair Cassidy Applauds Trump Effort to Return Education Power to Students & Families

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA), chair of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, released a statement on President Trump’s executive order to reform the Department of Education, returning education authority to states and local communities who are best suited to help their students succeed in the classroom. The most recent National Assessment of Educational Progress showed student achievement continues to decline from pre-pandemic levels.

“I agree with President Trump that the Department of Education has failed its mission,” said Dr. Cassidy. “Since the Department can only be shut down with congressional approval, I will support the President’s goals by submitting legislation to accomplish this as soon as possible.”
