WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA), chair of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, released a statement after U.S. Senate Democrats blocked the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act. This legislation protects the original intent of Title IX and prevents women and girls from being forced to compete against biological males.
“Female athletes who work extremely hard should not have their future in athletics hindered because they are forced to compete against biological males. Instead of standing up for women and girls, Democrats voted to cosign Joe Biden’s attempted assault on Title IX,” said Dr. Cassidy. “I will continue working with President Trump and my Republican colleagues to preserve Title IX, ensuring every woman and girl has the chance to succeed.”
The Biden administration worked to overhaul Title IX, coercing schools to allow biological males to compete in women’s sports or risk losing federal funds. This legislation would prevent similar attempts to undermine Title IX in the future.
In response, Cassidy launched an investigation to better understand the impact of allowing biological men to compete against female athletes in competition. He released a preliminary report detailing powerful testimony from female athletes who experienced anguish and mental stress arising from competing against biological male athletes who have an inherent physical advantage.
