ENZI REJECTS HOUSE MENTAL HEALTH PARITY BILL; URGES CONGRESS TO ACT ON CONSENSUS SENATE LEGISLATION
Washington D.C. – U.S. Senator Mike Enzi, R-WY, Ranking Member of theSenate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee (HELP Committee), today saidhe is disappointed that House leaders have passed a version of mental health paritylegislation against stiff opposition, and urged leaders in the House and Senate to act onconsensus mental health legislation, passed unanimously in the Senate, to ensure greaterhealth insurance parity for persons with mental illness.
“In the Senate we were able to bring together all sides of this debate to reach aconsensus and pass a bill unanimously to provide new hope for families suffering fromthe devastating effects of mental illness,” Enzi said. “I am disappointed that theDemocrat leadership in the House rejected the opportunity to act on the Senate bill,which has broad support, and instead chose to wage an uphill battle for a bill we all knowstands no chance of becoming law.”
